what does the number 6 mean spiritually in the bible

Okay, so I was reading the Bible the other day, and I kept seeing the number 6 pop up. Like, a lot. It got me thinking, “What’s up with this number? Does it have some special meaning or something?” I mean, we all know 7 is supposed to be this super holy, perfect number, but 6? That one always seemed a bit off to me.

So, I decided to do some digging. I grabbed my Bible, a notebook, and a big cup of coffee, and got to work. I started by just flipping through the Bible and jotting down every time I saw the number 6. I looked in both the Old and New Testaments, you know, to get the full picture.

My Findings About the Number 6

  • First, I noticed that humans were created on the sixth day. Right there in Genesis, it says God made us on day six, and then he rested on the seventh. Interesting, right? So, 6 is connected to us, to humanity.
  • Then I remembered that the Israelites were told to work for six days and then rest on the Sabbath, the seventh day. That’s in Exodus. It kind of mirrors the whole creation thing, doesn’t it?
  • In the book of Revelation, there’s this whole thing about the “mark of the beast,” and the number associated with it is 666. That’s definitely not a good thing. It’s like the opposite of holy.

After writing all this down, I started to see a pattern. It seemed like 6 was often associated with humans, with our imperfections, and with things that are not quite divine. It’s like 6 is almost there, but not quite at the level of 7, which is all about God’s perfection and completeness.

Then, I started thinking about the number 6 in relation to Jesus. I mean, he was fully human, but also fully God. So, does that mean he embodies both the 6 and the 7? That’s a whole other rabbit hole to go down, and I was already getting a headache from all this Bible study.

In the end, I realized that the number 6 in the Bible is pretty complex. It’s not just a simple number. It represents a lot of different things, like humanity, imperfection, and even evil in some cases. It’s definitely a number that makes you think, and it makes you appreciate the symbolism in the Bible even more. Now, I’m no Bible scholar, but this was a fun little experiment. Maybe I’ll look into another number next week. Any suggestions?
