Dali Tarot Cards: Are They Worth the Price?

I’ve always been fascinated by the strange and unusual. So, when I heard about Salvador Dali, the famous painter, getting into tarot cards, I was hooked. I mean, this guy’s art is already out there, right? So, the idea of him messing with tarot? I had to see what that was all about.

I got my hands on a copy of these cards – the “Tarot Universal Dali” it’s called. You can find it, but it’s kind of rare. Anyway, the box itself is a trip. It’s got this weird, dark brown color and it says “For the First Time in History of Art” on it, which is pretty bold, if you ask me. Inside, there are 78 cards, each one a tiny piece of Dali’s mind. And let me tell you, they’re just as wild as you’d expect.

I started digging into the history of these cards. It turns out, there’s this story about how Dali got involved with them because of a James Bond movie, “Live and Let Die.” Apparently, they needed some special tarot cards for the film, and Dali was the guy they called. I guess when you’re making a Bond movie, you don’t just use any old deck of cards.

So, Dali went all in. He didn’t just design the cards; he put himself and his wife, Gala, into them. From what I read, he’s the Magician, and she’s the Empress. How cool is that? It’s like they’re right there in the tarot, ruling over this surreal world he created.

Dali’s Tarot Deck

  • Diving into Each Card: Each card is a journey. I spent hours just looking at them, trying to figure out what Dali was thinking. It’s like each card is a puzzle, full of symbols and hidden meanings. It’s not just about the pretty pictures; it’s about what they represent.
  • Comparing with Traditional Tarot: I’m not a tarot expert, but I know the basics. I got out my regular Rider-Waite deck to compare. It’s interesting to see how Dali took the traditional meanings and twisted them into his own style. It’s familiar but also totally new.
  • The Book that Comes with It: The deck comes with a little book. It’s supposed to explain the cards, but honestly, it’s just as cryptic as the artwork. I guess that’s part of the charm, though. It’s like Dali is inviting you to figure it out for yourself.
  • Using the Cards in Readings: I tried doing a few readings with these cards. It’s definitely a different experience than using a regular deck. The images are so intense that they really make you think. I don’t know if I’m getting any clearer answers, but it’s definitely making me look at things from a different perspective.

In the end, getting into Dali’s tarot has been a wild ride. It’s like taking a trip through his art in a whole new way. These cards aren’t just for telling the future or whatever; they’re like a doorway into the mind of a genius. It’s confusing, it’s fascinating, and it’s definitely not something I’m going to forget anytime soon. And honestly, it’s made me appreciate Dali’s work even more. It’s not just about melting clocks; it’s about seeing the world in a completely different way.
