1889 Chinese Zodiac: Whats Your Sign and Its Meaning?

Yesterday, my friend Lisa asked me about the Chinese zodiac sign for the year 1889. I’d heard of the Chinese zodiac, you know, the animals and stuff, but honestly, I had no clue which animal represented 1889.

So, the first thing I did was grab my phone and opened up the browser. I simply typed in “Chinese zodiac 1889”.

The search results showed up pretty quick! It looks like 1889 was the year of the Ox. Turns out, the Chinese zodiac works on a 12-year cycle, with each year represented by an animal. And it’s not just the animal; there are also elements associated with each year, like Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. But for 1889, I primarily focused on the zodiac animal first.

Figuring out the Cycle

I wanted to understand the cycle a bit better, though. I found a basic chart of all animal years.

  • Rat
  • Ox
  • Tiger
  • Rabbit
  • Dragon
  • Snake
  • Horse
  • Goat(or Sheep)
  • Monkey
  • Rooster
  • Dog
  • Pig

Then I spent some time to confirm 1889 is the year of the OX.

It’s kind of cool to think about how this system has been around for so long, and how people still use it to learn about their personality traits and compatibility. I even checked my own zodiac sign, just for fun!

Anyways, I texted Lisa back and told her, “1889 was the year of the Ox!” She was super happy, and I was happy to figure out that for her, it also make me learn a little something new along the way!
