Okay, so I’ve been seeing tarot cards everywhere lately, and I finally decided to give it a shot. Figured I’d start with something basic, you know, a “beginner tarot deck.” Here’s how it went down:
Finding the Right Deck
First things first, I needed a deck. I went online, and wow, there are a ton of options. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. After some digging, I kept seeing recommendations for the Rider-Waite deck. Apparently, it’s like the classic, go-to deck for newbies. The images seemed pretty straightforward, and everyone said the guidebook was helpful, so I ordered it.
Getting to Know the Cards
When the deck arrived, I was pretty excited. I opened the box, and I took the cards and shuffled them around. It felt, well, a bit weird at first. Like, what am I supposed to do with these?
The guidebook suggested I spend some time just looking at each card, getting a feel for the images and what they might represent. So, that’s what I did. I laid them out on the floor and just…looked at them. Some of them were obvious, like “The Lovers” (two people, duh). Others, like “The Hermit” (a guy with a lantern), were a bit more mysterious.
- I tried to connect the images to things in my own life.
- For example, “The Star” card, with a woman pouring water, made me think about hope and renewal.
- “The Chariot” ,with two sphinxes pulling, represent some conflicts.
My First Reading (It Was Clumsy)
After a few days of just looking at the cards, I decided to try a simple three-card spread. This is where you draw three cards to represent the past, present, and future. I shuffled the deck, focused on a question (something like, “What’s the energy around my career right now?”), and pulled three cards.
Honestly, it was a bit clumsy. I kept having to refer back to the guidebook to understand what each card meant. It wasn’t this instant, magical “aha!” moment. It was more like, “Okay, this card could mean this, or maybe it means that…” It felt like I was putting together a puzzle, but the pieces weren’t quite fitting.
Practice Makes…Better?
I’ve been practicing a little bit each day. I pull a single card in the morning and think about how it might relate to my day. I’m slowly starting to remember some of the meanings without having to constantly check the guidebook. It’s still not super smooth, but I’m definitely getting a little bit better at interpreting the cards.
I found it is still a long way for me to go, I am still excited for what I can learn from the tarot cards.
