Okay, so I’ve been messing around with tarot cards lately, and I wanted to share my experience trying to read them using regular playing cards. I tried this because someone told me that you could, and I thought, “Why not?” It sounded like a cool way to get better at understanding tarot without always having to pull out my fancy deck.

I started by doing some digging online about what each card means. I found out that the 5 of Spades is kind of a bummer card. It’s all about tough times, fights, and feeling like you’ve lost something important. Spades, in general, are about brains, struggles, and the hard stuff you’ve gotta deal with. They are not usually sunshine and rainbows.
My first attempt at this was, well, let’s just say it was rough. I laid out the cards like I’d seen in a few YouTube videos, focusing on a question I had about a project I’m working on. I pulled the 5 of Spades, and I was like, “Great, just what I didn’t want to see.”
But I kept at it. I practiced a few more times, trying to connect the 5 of Spades to what was going on in my life. I thought about the conflicts I was facing at work and some personal challenges I was dealing with. It was kind of eye-opening to see how this one card could reflect so much of what I was going through.
- Picked a question: I focused on a specific issue each time I did a reading.
- Shuffled and laid out the cards: I didn’t get too fancy, just a simple spread.
- Looked up meanings: I kept some notes handy about what each card could mean.
- Reflected: This was the most important part. I took time to think about how the cards related to my question.
Here’s what I did:
After a few tries, I started to feel more comfortable with the process. It’s not that the 5 of Spades suddenly became a good card, but I understood it better. It showed me that it’s okay to face challenges and that sometimes, things don’t go your way. It’s all about how you handle it, you know?
I’m still no expert, but this little experiment has been really interesting. It’s made me look at regular playing cards in a whole new way, and it’s definitely helped me sharpen my tarot skills. Plus, it’s kind of cool to think that you can find wisdom in something as simple as a deck of cards. So I thought I would tell people about this practice of mine.
