Learn Hanson Roberts Tarot: Simple Explanations and Meanings for Every Card.

Okay, here’s my blog post about my experience with the Hanson-Roberts Tarot deck:

So, I finally decided to dive into the Hanson-Roberts Tarot deck. I’d seen it around for ages, you know, those cute, almost cartoonish images. I always thought they were a bit…simple. But something kept drawing me back. Maybe it was the softer colors, or maybe I was just tired of the intensity of some of my other decks. Whatever it was, I grabbed a copy and decided to give it a proper go.

Getting Started

First thing I did, obviously, was just shuffle through the deck. Get a feel for the cards, you know? The card stock is pretty standard, nothing fancy, but they shuffle nicely. Not too stiff, not too flimsy. They’re smaller than some other decks, which I actually liked. Easier to handle, especially if you have smaller hands like me.

First Impressions

The imagery, like I said, is very… gentle. It’s based on the Rider-Waite-Smith system, so if you’re familiar with that, you’ll recognize the basic symbolism. But the Hanson-Roberts take is definitely unique. The characters are all very round, soft, almost childlike. There’s a real innocence to them, which I found surprisingly refreshing.

I decided to just pull a simple three-card spread for a “past, present, future” reading for myself. Nothing too serious, just a way to get acquainted with the deck.

The Reading

  • Past: The Queen of Cups. Okay, that resonated. I’ve definitely been in a very nurturing, emotionally-focused place lately.
  • Present: The Two of Pentacles. Yep, juggling a lot of things right now. Trying to find balance, make decisions. Sounds about right.
  • Future: The Star. Whoa. Okay, that’s a pretty hopeful card! Feeling good about that.

I used the little booklet that comes with the deck. It’s pretty basic, very simple. Just a short description of each card. But honestly, it was enough to get me started. The images themselves are so clear, even if they are simplified, that I found I could intuitively grasp a lot of the meaning without having to rely too heavily on the book.

Experimenting Further

After that first reading, I decided to just play around with the cards. I pulled a card each morning for a few days, just to see what the “energy of the day” would be. I also did a few more complex spreads for specific questions I had. I found that the more I used the deck, the more comfortable I became with it. The initial “simplicity” I had perceived started to feel more like… clarity. The images were still cute, but they also felt surprisingly powerful.

For example:one day,I pulled the cards for a little problems that I am facing recently. I got the “five of wands”.It’s all about the conflict.I was suprised, and the cards touched me!

My Conclusion (So Far)

I’m really glad I gave the Hanson-Roberts Tarot a chance. It’s definitely a different vibe than some of my other decks, but I’m finding it to be a really valuable tool. It’s gentle, but not simplistic. It’s approachable, but still deep. It’s a great deck for beginners, but I think even experienced readers could find a lot to love about it. I’m definitely going to keep working with it and see where it takes me!
