Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this idea for “Tarot Coins,” and I wanted to share how it’s been going. It started with a simple “what if?” What if, instead of tarot cards, I had these cool, weighty coins? It sounded neat in my head, so I went with it.
Getting Started
First, I needed to figure out the basics. I wanted to start with the Major Arcana, the big, important cards. I listed them all out. You know, The Fool, The Magician, The Lovers… all 22 of them. I figured coins for just these would be a good start.
- The Fool
- The Magician
- The High Priestess
- …and so on
Designing the Coins
This is where it got interesting. I started sketching. Simple stuff, just circles with little symbols that kind of looked like the things on the actual tarot cards. Like, for The Sun, I drew a… well, a sun. A very basic one. I’m no artist, I just did what made sense to me.
Then I thought, “How am I gonna make these?” I looked around online and found some blank metal coins. I thought “Perfect!”. I decided to use these as a practice run.
The Making Process
This part was a bit messy. I got my hands on some basic metal stamping tools. So, I started by trying to hammer these designs onto the coins, using basic punches and a regular hammer. It was… harder than it looked. The first few were pretty awful, all crooked and uneven.
But I kept at it. I figured, even if they weren’t perfect, they’d have that handmade, kinda rustic feel, right? After a few tries, I got a little better. It was still tough to get the details I wanted, but they started to look like something.
How They Turned Out
Finally, after a lot of trial and error, I had a set of coins. They weren’t shiny and perfect like something you’d buy in a store, but they were mine. Each one had its own little quirks. And honestly, I liked that. It felt more… authentic, in a way.
I’ve been using them for a few simple readings, just for myself and some friends. It’s a different feel than using cards. Holding the coins, feeling the weight, it adds something to the experience. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out so far. I think I will keep improving my technique and maybe even try to craft some better-looking coins in the future.
