Learn Tarot: Your Easy Guide to Marseilles Deck of Tarot Cards

Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get into tarot cards for a while, and I finally decided to take the plunge with the Marseilles deck. I’d heard it’s a good one for beginners, but honestly, I was a little intimidated at first.

Getting Started

First thing I did was, obviously, buy a deck. I went with a classic-looking Marseilles deck, nothing fancy. I wanted that traditional feel, you know?

Then, I spent some time just… looking at the cards. Seriously, I just flipped through them, getting a feel for the images, the colors, the overall vibe. It was kinda overwhelming at first because there are so many! 78, if you count the ones without suite!

Learning the Basics

  • Major Arcana: These are the big-deal cards, like The Fool, The Lovers, The Hanged Man. I started by trying to understand their basic meanings.
  • Minor Arcana: These are more like regular playing cards, with four suits (Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles) and numbers. I tried to connect them to everyday situations.

I found some websites and books that explained the meanings of each card. It was a lot of info to take in, but I figured I’d start small and gradually build my knowledge.

Doing My First Reading

Okay, this was the scary part. I decided to do a simple three-card spread for myself: Past, Present, Future. I shuffled the deck, really focusing on my question (which was super general, like “What do I need to know right now?”). Then, I laid out the cards and… tried to make sense of them.

It wasn’t easy! I had to keep referring back to my notes to remember what each card meant. But slowly, I started to see a story emerge. It wasn’t super clear, but it definitely resonated with what’s been going on in my life.

Practice and Practice, then more practice.

I’ve been practicing with different spreads, trying out readings for friends (who were surprisingly into it!), and just generally spending more time with the cards. I can’t say I use it for the reason of the cards, but it does help me practice my English a bit.

It’s definitely a journey, and I’m still very much a beginner. But it’s been a really interesting experience so far. It’s like learning a new language, and I’m excited to see where it takes me.I feel like I could do this all day!
