Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get into Tarot for a while now, and I finally took the plunge and bought a Rider-Waite deck. I chose this one ’cause it’s like, the classic, right? Everyone says it’s the best for beginners, with all the imagery and stuff.
First thing I did was just, you know, hold the deck. Get a feel for it. The cards were kinda stiff at first, brand new, you know? I shuffled them around a bit, not in any specific way, just to get my energy on them. It felt kinda weird, but cool at the same time.
Getting to Know the Cards
Then, I laid them all out on the floor. Wow, there are a lot of cards! 78, to be exact. I started picking them up one by one, just looking at the pictures. The artwork is pretty old-school, but I kinda dig it. It’s got this mystical vibe, you know?
I didn’t try to memorize anything right away. I just wanted to see what jumped out at me. Like, the Fool card, he’s just chillin’ on the edge of a cliff, not a care in the world. And the Lovers card, it’s got this whole Adam and Eve thing going on. And the Death card. the graphics looks scary.
First Reading Attempt
- The Star: Hope, inspiration, guidance. Okay, cool. Feeling optimistic!
- Ten of Swords: Defeat, ruin, hitting rock bottom. Uh oh… maybe this means I need to let go of something?
- The Magician: Power, skill, manifestation. Alright, I can work with this! Maybe I have the ability to turn things around.
I decided to try a super simple three-card spread. Past, present, future. I shuffled the deck while thinking about, well, everything! My life, my worries, my hopes. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest.
I spread out.I looked up the meanings online. It was a bit confusing, trying to connect the cards to my own situation. I’m definitely going to need to do more practice and research!
Then realized, I have to learn and practice more.
So, yeah, that was my first experience with the Rider-Waite Tarot. It was a little bit overwhelming, a little bit confusing, but mostly just really, really interesting. I’m excited to keep learning and see where this takes me! Maybe I’ll even become one of those cool Tarot readers someday, who knows?
