Okay, so I’ve been messing around with tarot cards lately, and I wanted to get a better handle on the different positions in a spread. You know, not just randomly throwing cards down, but actually understanding what each position means. So, I did a little digging and experimenting. Here’s what I’ve been up to:
First, I grabbed my trusty notebook and started jotting down some common spreads. I mean, everyone knows the three-card spread (Past, Present, Future), right? But I wanted more. I found a bunch online – Celtic Cross, Horseshoe, the list goes on. It was a little overwhelming!
My Practice Session:
- Step 1: Pick a Spread. I decided to start simple. I went with a five-card spread that focused on a specific question I had about a project I’m working on.
- Step 2: Define the Positions. This was key! Before I even touched my deck, I wrote down what each position in the spread represented. For example:
- Position 1: The heart of the matter.
- Position 2: Obstacles or challenges.
- Position 3: Hidden influences.
- Position 4: Advice or action to take.
- Position 5: Potential outcome.
- Step 3: Shuffle and Draw. I shuffled my deck while focusing on my question, then I laid out the cards in the order of the spread, face down.
- Step 4: Interpret Each Card. I flipped the cards over one by one. For each card, I first considered its traditional meaning, then I thought about how it related to the specific position in the spread and my question. It was like, “Okay, the Tower in the ‘obstacles’ position… that’s probably not great.”
- Step 5: See the Big Picture. Once I looked at each card individually, I stepped back and tried to see how they all connected. What story were they telling me as a whole? This was the hardest part, but also the most interesting.
It’s still a work in progress, for sure. I’m definitely no expert. But by actually writing things down and going through the process step-by-step, I feel like I’m starting to get a much better feel for how the positions in a tarot spread work. It’s less about memorizing a bunch of stuff and more about, like, connecting the dots. I’m planning to try a different spread next week – maybe the Celtic Cross, if I’m feeling brave!
