Okay, so today I wanted to try something different and see if I could quantify my attitude. Sounds weird, I know, but I was curious. I figured, maybe if I could put numbers to how I’m feeling, I could get a better handle on things. You know, track it like you track your steps or something.
The Setup
First, I grabbed a notebook and pen – I’m old school like that. I decided to break down my day into chunks. Morning, afternoon, and evening seemed like a good starting point. Then, I came up with a few key things I wanted to track. I went with:
- Energy Level: How tired or awake I felt.
- Mood: Generally, was I happy, sad, grumpy, whatever?
- Focus: How well could I concentrate on what I was doing?
- Motivation: How much did I want to do things?
For each of these, I used a super simple scale of 1 to 5. 1 being awful, 5 being amazing. Like, a 1 in energy meant I was basically a zombie, and a 5 meant I could run a marathon (which I definitely can’t, by the way).
The Process
So, this morning, I woke up and, before even getting out of bed, I jotted down my numbers. I felt pretty good, so I think I gave myself a 4 for energy, a 4 for mood, a 3 for focus (still waking up!), and a 3 for motivation. Then I went about my day.
Around lunchtime, I checked in again. My energy had dipped a bit after a big meeting – down to a 2. Mood was still okay, maybe a 3. Focus was surprisingly high, though, I was really “in the zone” on a project, so I gave that a 4. Motivation was also up, probably because I was seeing progress – another 4.
Finally, tonight, before bed, I did my last check-in. Energy was low, like a 1 – I’m ready to crash. Mood was a solid 4, a good day overall. Focus was pretty much gone, so a 1. And motivation? Let’s just say I’m motivated to go to sleep, so I’ll give that a 2.
What I Learned (Maybe)
Honestly, it’s just one day, so I can’t say I’ve discovered any huge secrets about myself. But it was kind of interesting to see the numbers change throughout the day. It made me more aware of how I was feeling, and maybe even helped me understand why I was feeling that way. Like, seeing that energy dip after the meeting? Yeah, that makes sense.
I might try this for a few more days. Could be total nonsense, could be something useful. Who knows! It’s all about experimenting, right?
