Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get into tarot cards for a while now, and I finally took the plunge. Let me tell you, it’s been quite a journey just finding the right deck.

First off, I started by doing some digging online. There’s so much info out there, it’s kinda overwhelming. But I learned that finding a reliable source is key to getting a good deck. I looked into local shops and a few online stores. And it seems like there are tons of different types of decks, sizes, and artwork.
Then, I went to a local metaphysical shop near me. I figured it would be cool to actually see the cards in person. When I got there, I spent a good chunk of time just browsing. I picked up different decks, looked at the artwork, and tried to get a feel for them. It’s weird, but some decks just felt right, you know? Like they were calling out to me or something. A few of them felt kinda off, so I put those back.
The shopkeeper was super helpful, too. We chatted for a bit, and she gave me some pointers on what to look for. She said to shuffle the cards a few times to see how they feel in my hands. I tried that out, shuffling and twisting them around. It actually made a difference. Some decks were too stiff or slippery, while others felt comfortable.
I also noticed that each deck came with a little guidebook. The shopkeeper explained that these books help you understand the meanings of the cards. That’s important, especially for a newbie like me. She also mentioned that the packaging matters. She showed me how some decks come in sturdy, two-piece boxes, while others are in flimsy tuck boxes. The sturdy ones definitely seemed more durable.
After looking around for a while, I narrowed it down to two decks. One had this ethereal, dreamy artwork that I really loved. The other one was more traditional, but it felt more powerful somehow. I was torn between them for a good half hour.

-
First Deck:
Beautiful artwork, felt welcoming, guidebook seemed easy to understand.
-
Second Deck:
More traditional, felt a bit more intense, the box was super sturdy.
In the end, I went with the first deck, the one with the ethereal artwork. It just felt more in tune with my energy. Plus, the guidebook seemed a bit more beginner-friendly. I paid for it, $15.42 in total, thanked the shopkeeper, and headed home.
Once I got home, I opened the box and started going through the cards. I spent some time just looking at each card, reading the guidebook, and trying to connect with the imagery. It was a really cool experience.
Overall, it was a bit of a process, but I’m so glad I finally got my first deck of tarot cards. It feels like the start of a new adventure. I can’t wait to start learning more and doing some readings!
