Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this number four thing. Folks say it’s got all sorts of meanings in that there Bible. I ain’t no preacher, mind you, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. But I’ve heard things, and I reckon some of it makes sense.

Number four, they say, it’s about things bein’ finished and whole. Like, you got four corners on a house, right? Makes it sturdy, makes it stand. So, four, it’s like a solid foundation. You gotta have a good foundation, whether it’s for your house or your life, or they tell me even that faith stuff they talk about in church.
They also say four is about makin’ stuff. God made the world in six days, but on the fourth day, He made the sun, moon, and stars. That’s a big deal, right? Light and dark, day and night – it’s all set up on the fourth day. So, four, it’s kinda like the day things got organized, the day the world got its rhythm.
Now, I heard this story about a fella named Lazarus. He died, see? And this Jesus fella, he waited four days before he went to see him. Why four days? Well, some folks say that after four days, a person’s spirit is really gone. Gone for good. So, when Jesus showed up after four days, it was like, “This is it. This is final.” But then, Jesus, he brought Lazarus back. Now that’s somethin’, ain’t it?
- Four corners, solid house
- Four days, Lazarus dead
- Four somethin’ about creation, the sun and moon and such
It’s like this, four is about things bein’ set, firm, and done. But even when things seem finished, like Lazarus bein’ dead, there’s always hope. That’s what I get from it, anyways. Don’t go quotin’ me on this to the preacher, though. I might not have it all exactly right.
And then there’s this talk about hard work and rules. Four, they say, means you gotta put in the effort. You gotta follow the steps, one after the other. Like plantin’ a garden. You can’t just throw seeds on the ground and expect a miracle. You gotta dig, plant, water, weed – it’s a whole process. Four steps maybe? I don’t know exactly how many but it takes time. And it’s the same with life, I reckon. You gotta work hard, stick to it, and do things the right way.

Some folks even tie this number four to those old gods. Like that Jupiter fella. He’s a big strong one, a father figure they say. So maybe four is also about bein’ strong, about protection.
So, what does the number four mean? Well, from what I gather, it’s about things bein’ complete, about havin’ a good foundation, about workin’ hard and followin’ rules. It’s about things bein’ final, but also about hope. It’s about strength and protection. It’s a lot for one little number, ain’t it? But that’s what they say. Now, don’t ask me to explain it all fancy-like. I’m just tellin’ you what I’ve heard, the way I understand it. It’s all just common sense to me, really.
Anyways, that’s my two cents on this number four. Take it or leave it. It’s just somethin’ to think about when you’re sittin’ on the porch, watchin’ the world go by.
