Okay, so, I got this idea the other day to mess around with tarot cards, but not in the usual way. I’ve always been kinda fascinated by them, not for, like, telling the future or anything, but just the artwork and the whole vibe, you know? So I thought, what if I mixed and matched the cards to create some new meanings? Like, not just drawing one card, but combining two or maybe three to see what pops up.
First off, I grabbed my tarot deck. It’s nothing fancy, just a standard Rider-Waite deck I picked up a while back. I laid them all out on the floor, face down, and just took a moment to shuffle them around. I’m not super strict about how I shuffle, I just kind of riffle them a few times and then cut the deck a couple of times until it feels right.
Then, I started pulling pairs. Like, I’d pull one card, check it out, think about what it usually means, and then pull another one and see how they played together. For example, I got The Fool and The Magician once. Normally, The Fool is all about new beginnings, taking risks, and The Magician is about having the tools and resources to make things happen. So together, I figured they might mean something like, “Take that leap of faith, you’ve got what it takes to succeed!” It was pretty cool to see how the meanings shifted when I put them together.
I did this for a while, just pulling pairs and jotting down some notes in my journal. Here are some of my favorite combinations:
- The Lovers + The Hermit: I figured this might mean needing to find balance between relationships and alone time. Or maybe making a decision about love based on some deep introspection.
- The Chariot + The Star: This one felt super positive, like moving forward with hope and optimism. Maybe achieving a goal and having a really clear vision for the future.
- Death + The Sun: At first, this seemed weird but, I thought maybe it means that the end of something is leading to a really bright and happy new beginning. Like, out with the old, in with the new, but in a really good way.
After doing pairs, I decided to try trios. That got even more interesting because you’ve got three cards all interacting. It was a bit trickier to figure out the combined meanings, but it was fun to try. One trio I remember was The Empress, The Hierophant, and Justice. My take on that one was something about needing to balance creativity and tradition when making a fair decision. Or maybe needing to find a nurturing way to uphold the rules or something like that. It really gets you thinking!
I spent a good few hours doing this, just mixing and matching, and writing down my thoughts. It was a really cool way to explore the tarot cards in a different way and flex my creativity. Plus, it was just a relaxing and fun way to spend an afternoon.
I will definitely be doing this again. Maybe next time I’ll even try to create little stories or scenarios based on the combinations. It’s like a little game you can play with yourself, and you don’t even need to believe in the fortune-telling part of tarot to enjoy it.
