Explore Folklore & Legend: Fantastical Creatures Tarot Reading

Well now, let me tell ya ’bout these here… fancy-ful creature tarot cards. I ain’t no scholar or nothin’, but I seen a thing or two, and these cards, they got somethin’ special. They ain’t like them regular cards with the hearts and diamonds. These here got pictures, all sorts of beasties and critters you ain’t never seen in real life, unless maybe you been drinkin’ somethin’ strong!

They say these pictures come from…myth-o-logy, and folk-lore, and legends. Big words, I know. Basically, they’re old stories, passed down from folks a long, long time ago. Stories ’bout fairies, and dragons, and goblins, and all sorts of things that go bump in the night. And these cards, they got them critters right there on ’em, in all their glory.

Now, I ain’t gonna lie, I don’t understand all the fancy meanin’s behind each card. There’s this little book that comes with ’em, a booklet they call it. It’s supposed to tell you what each card means. Something about “Major Arcana” and “Minor Arcana.” Sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me. But, I reckon it’s like this, each picture tells a story, and you gotta use your own head to figure out what that story means for you.

There’s this one card, the Magician they call him. He’s got a fancy hat and all, standin’ there with a wand in his hand. Reminds me of that fella who came through town last year, sellin’ them snake oil remedies. Said he could cure anything from a toothache to a broken heart. Anyways, this Magician card, they say he’s about makin’ things happen. Sorta like… puttin’ your mind to somethin’ and gettin’ it done.

  • Like if you wanna plant a garden, you gotta till the soil, plant the seeds, and water ’em. You can’t just sit around and expect a tomato to pop outta the ground on its own, right?
  • Or if you wanna bake a pie, you gotta get the flour, the sugar, the apples. You can’t just wish for a pie and have it appear in front of ya.
  • That’s what I think this Magician fella is all about. Takin’ action. Makin’ things happen with your own two hands.

And then there’s all these other cards, with all sorts of strange creatures. There’s this one with a big, scaly dragon. Looks mean enough to eat ya whole! And another one with a bunch of little fairies dancin’ in a circle. They’re kinda pretty, I guess, but I wouldn’t trust ’em. Fairies are always up to no good, that’s what my grandma used to say.

These cards, they ain’t just for lookin’ at, though. People use ’em for… divination, they call it. That’s just a fancy word for tryin’ to see the future. Or maybe understandin’ the present. I don’t know how it works, but some folks swear by it. They shuffle the cards, lay ’em out in a special way, and then they look at the pictures and try to figure out what they mean. It’s like readin’ tea leaves, or lookin’ at the clouds.

Now, I ain’t sayin’ I believe in all that hocus pocus. But, I reckon there’s somethin’ to be said for takin’ a step back and lookin’ at things from a different angle. And these cards, with their strange pictures and stories, they can help you do just that. They can make you think about things you ain’t never thought about before. They can help you see the world in a whole new light.

These cards, the fantastical creatures tarot cards, measure about 2.75 by 4.75… whatever that means in real measurements, I ain’t sure. It also comes with a quick reference guide, so you ain’t completely lost like a calf in tall grass. They say tarot reading ain’t magic in the traditional sense, but I reckon there’s a bit of magic in everything if you look hard enough. Even in a deck of cards with pictures of beasties and goblins.

So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ a little different, somethin’ to make you think, somethin’ to spark your imagination, then maybe these fantastical creatures tarot cards are just the thing for you. Just don’t go expectin’ ’em to tell you the winnin’ lottery numbers, or who you’re gonna marry. They ain’t that kind of magic. But they might just help you see the magic that’s already inside of you.
