Explore the tarot cards major arcana list: Your quick guide to their essential meanings.

Alright, so today I felt like going back to the roots, you know? Sometimes with Tarot, you get caught up in complex spreads and forget the core journey. So, I decided to sit down and really list out the Major Arcana cards. Just needed to refresh my memory and kind of reconnect with that foundational sequence.

First thing I did was grab my go-to deck, the one that just feels right in my hands. Spread all the Major cards out on my table. It’s quite a sight, seeing that whole story laid out visually. I find doing this helps me remember the flow, the progression from the Fool’s first step to the World’s completion.

Then, I started actually writing them down. Didn’t just rattle them off from memory, though I probably could. I picked up each card, looked at it for a sec, thought about its main vibe, and then added it to my list. It’s a bit slower, yeah, but it makes it stick better, I think. Going through the physical act of ordering and writing really grounds the knowledge.

It’s funny how sometimes you mix up the order slightly if you’re not careful, especially around Justice and Strength, depending on the deck tradition. But I stuck to the common ordering for this review.

My Major Arcana Refresher List

So, after laying them out and jotting them down one by one, here’s the list I compiled during my practice session today:

  • 0 – The Fool
  • I – The Magician
  • II – The High Priestess
  • III – The Empress
  • IV – The Emperor
  • V – The Hierophant
  • VI – The Lovers
  • VII – The Chariot
  • VIII – Strength
  • IX – The Hermit
  • X – Wheel of Fortune
  • XI – Justice
  • XII – The Hanged Man
  • XIII – Death
  • XIV – Temperance
  • XV – The Devil
  • XVI – The Tower
  • XVII – The Star
  • XVIII – The Moon
  • XIX – The Sun
  • XX – Judgement
  • XXI – The World

And that’s that. Felt good to just focus on these big hitters for a bit. Simple exercise, but definitely helpful to keep things sharp.
