Well, let me tell ya somethin’ ’bout them “feng shui stairs.” Never heard of such a thing ’til recently, but folks say it’s important for a good home. Seems like everything’s gotta be just so these days, not like when I was a young’un. We just had stairs, ya know? Didn’t think nothin’ of it.

Anyways, they say where your stairs are at matters a whole heap. You don’t want them stairs starin’ right at the front door. That’s like lettin’ all the good luck run right outta the house, they say. Kinda makes sense, I guess. Like leavin’ the door wide open in the winter, all the heat just goes right out. Same thing with the good energy, or whatever they call it, “chi.” Sounds like somethin’ you eat, but they say it’s the life force of the house.
Now, if you got your stairs smack-dab in the middle of your house, that’s supposed to be good. Keeps all that “chi” flowin’ around nice and easy. But if it ain’t, don’t you go tearin’ down your house just yet! There’s other things you can do, they say.
- Hangin’ somethin’ sparkly, like a crystal ball, halfway ‘tween the stairs and the front door is supposed to help lift that “chi” up. Sounds kinda fancy, but whatever works, right?
- And puttin’ a mirror at the top of the stairs, facin’ the door? That makes the place feel bigger, they say. More room to breathe, more room for good things to happen. Guess that makes sense, mirrors always did make things look bigger.
- Then there’s puttin’ a rug at the bottom of the stairs. That slows things down a bit, keeps that “chi” from rushin’ out the door. Plus, it’s nice on your feet, especially if you got old bones like me!
Now, about how many steps them stairs should have? Don’t ask me why, but certain numbers are lucky, they say. Numbers like 1, 2, 5, 10, 13, 14, 17, and 22. If your stairs don’t have that many, well, I guess you’re outta luck. Just kiddin’! Don’t worry too much about it. There’s more important things in life than countin’ steps, believe you me.
And another thing, don’t go stuffin’ a bunch of junk under them stairs. Especially nothin’ that catches fire easy, like newspapers and cardboard. That’s just plain dangerous. But metal stuff, wood things, maybe even your vacuum cleaner, that’s alright. Gotta keep things tidy, I always say. A messy house is a messy mind.
This whole “feng shui” thing, it’s all about makin’ your home peaceful and balanced. They got this map thingy called a “Bagua,” supposed to help you figure out where the energy flows in your house. Sounds complicated, but I guess it helps some folks. Me? I just try to keep things clean and comfortable.

If them stairs are right smack in the middle of your house, though, you might wanna talk to someone who knows about this “feng shui” stuff. They can give you better advice than an old woman like me. But from what I hear, it’s important to get it right.
So, there you have it. A little bit about them “feng shui stairs.” Maybe it’ll help you, maybe it won’t. But it can’t hurt to try and make your home a little bit better, right? Just remember, keep it clean, keep it safe, and keep that good energy flowin’. And don’t forget to put down a rug, your feet will thank ya!
