Getting Started With Digital Tarot
Okay, so I decided to give this whole digital tarot reading thing a shot the other day. Heard people talking about it, seen apps and websites popping up. Curiosity got the better of me, I guess. Didn’t really know where to begin, just opened my browser and typed something like ‘free tarot reading online’.
A bunch of sites came up, obviously. Some looked way too fancy, others kinda sketchy. I just picked one that seemed straightforward. Didn’t want to sign up for anything, just wanted to see what it was all about. Found one that let you just jump right in.
Doing the Actual Reading
So, the site loaded up. First thing it tells you is to kinda focus. You know, have a question in mind. An ‘intention’ they called it. I wasn’t trying to solve world peace or anything. Just sat there for a second, staring at the screen.
What did I actually want to ask this thing? Felt a bit weird. In the end, I just went with something simple, like ‘What energy should I be aware of today?’ Seemed general enough. Held that thought in my head, like the instructions said.
Then came the ‘shuffling’. On this site, it was just clicking a button that said ‘Shuffle Deck’. Watched some card animation play out. Then clicked another button, ‘Draw Card’. I decided to just pull one card to keep it simple for the first try.
The whole process felt incredibly… fast. And kinda detached. There’s no physical deck, no real shuffling feel. Just click, animation, click, result. Not much ceremony to it.
What Popped Up
Boom. A card appeared on the screen. I think the first time I did it, I got something like the Four of Cups. Saw the picture, the name underneath.
Below the card image, the website automatically showed the meaning. Like, a whole paragraph explaining it. Talked about apathy, contemplation, maybe missing opportunities. Standard stuff you’d read in a tarot book.
I read through it. Some bits kinda resonated, in a very vague way. Other parts didn’t really fit my situation at all. It was pretty generic, honestly.
My Thoughts On It Afterwards
So, after messing around with it a few times, here’s what I reckon about this digital tarot stuff:
- It’s definitely convenient. Super quick, you can do it anywhere if you have your phone or computer. No need to carry cards around.
- It’s easy for beginners. The meanings are right there, no need to memorize anything or fumble through a guidebook.
But, and this is a big ‘but’ for me, it feels completely impersonal. There’s zero connection. Clicking on digital images just doesn’t feel the same as holding, shuffling, and drawing physical cards. That tactile sensation, that moment of quiet focus… it’s just missing.
It felt more like interacting with a random generator than doing an actual reading. The interpretations were often so broad they could mean anything. For me, it lacked any real depth or personal touch.
So, yeah, I tried it. It’s a thing you can do. Maybe okay for a quick, superficial thought prompt. But if you’re looking for a meaningful experience? I’d stick to the old-school way. That’s just my take on it after giving it a go.
