How to do a one card draw tarot reading? Learn these easy steps for quick daily answers.

My Go-To: The One Card Draw

Okay, so sometimes life throws stuff at you, or maybe you just feel a bit stuck, you know? That’s when I usually reach for my tarot deck. Not for some huge, complicated layout, just a quick check-in. My go-to is the simple one card draw.

First thing, I gotta find a moment. Doesn’t have to be fancy, just maybe five minutes where the cat isn’t demanding food or the phone isn’t buzzing. I just sit down, maybe take a deep breath or two. Helps clear my head a bit.

Then I pick up my deck. It’s pretty worn now, feels familiar in my hands. I give it a good shuffle. I’m not super particular about how I shuffle, sometimes it’s a messy overhand shuffle, sometimes I try to do that bridge thing but usually mess it up. The point is just mixing them up while I think about what’s on my mind. Sometimes it’s a specific question, like “Should I go for this thing?”. Other times it’s more vague, like “What energy do I need to focus on today?”. I just try to hold that thought steady while I shuffle.

I keep shuffling until it feels kinda… right? There’s no magic signal, it just feels like enough. Then I usually cut the deck into three piles, just stacking them back together in a random order. Again, just my habit.

Finally, I draw the card. I just pull the top one. Simple as that. I flip it over and take a good look.

  • What’s the picture?
  • What’s the first feeling I get from it?
  • How does it connect to what I was thinking about?

I don’t rush it. I sit with the card for a minute. Sometimes the message is super clear, hits me right away. Other times, it’s a bit confusing, and I have to mull it over for a while. I might even jot it down in my notebook – the question, the card, and my first thoughts. Helps me remember later.

And that’s basically it. It’s not about predicting the lottery numbers or anything dramatic. For me, it’s just a simple tool, a way to check in with myself and maybe see things from a slightly different angle. Quick, easy, and usually gives me something useful to think about. That’s my process for the one card draw.
