Learn Marseille Tarot Deck Reading: Beginner-Friendly Tutorial.

Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get into tarot for a while, and I finally decided to take the plunge. I went with the Marseille deck because, you know, it’s classic. It felt like a good place to start.

Getting My Hands on a Deck

First things first, I needed a deck. I could have grabbed one online, super easy, but I wanted the whole experience. So, I went down to this little quirky shop in town that sells all sorts of mystical stuff. It was kind of overwhelming, to be honest! So many different decks, crystals, incense… the whole nine yards. But I found a Marseille deck that felt right. The cards were a good size, and the artwork just clicked with me.

Unboxing and First Impressions

When I got home, I was pretty excited. I cleared off my desk, made some tea, and kind of set the mood, I guess. I carefully opened the box, and wow, the cards felt really substantial. The card stock was thick, and the images, even though they’re pretty simple, had this old-world charm.

Getting to Know the Cards

This is where the real work started. I knew absolutely nothing about tarot, so I’d grabbed a beginner’s guide along with the deck. I started by just looking at each card, one by one. The Major Arcana, those were the big ones – The Fool, The Magician, The Empress… they all seemed to have these really powerful, symbolic meanings.

Then there were the Minor Arcana, which are kind of like a regular deck of playing cards, with four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles(in my deck they show up as ‘Baton’, ‘Coupes’, ‘Epees’, and ‘Deniers’). Each suit seemed to represent a different aspect of life, like creativity, emotions, intellect, and material things.

I started to learn a little bit with them, and here is my list:

  • Baton(Wands):Fire, Will, Spirituality, Inspiration…
  • Coupes(Cups):Water, love, the subconscious, intuition…
  • Epees(Swords):Air, power, action, courage…
  • Deniers(Pentacles):Earth,body, possessions, career…

Trying My First Spreads

After spending a few days just familiarizing myself with the cards, I decided to try a simple three-card spread – you know, past, present, future. I shuffled the deck, focusing on a question I had, and then laid out the cards. It was… interesting. The cards I drew definitely resonated with my situation, but I wasn’t quite sure how to interpret them all together.

I’ve done a few more spreads since then, and it’s slowly starting to make more sense. I’m realizing that it’s not about predicting the future with 100% accuracy. It’s more about gaining insights, seeing things from a different perspective, and maybe tapping into my own intuition a bit more.

My Tarot Journey Continues…

So, that’s where I’m at with my Marseille tarot deck journey. It’s definitely a learning process, and I’m still a total newbie. But I’m enjoying it. It’s like learning a new language, a visual language of symbols and archetypes. I’m excited to see where it takes me!
