Alright, let’s talk about this number 20 in the Bible, ya know? It’s kinda like waitin’ for the bus, only it’s God’s bus, and it takes a good long while sometimes.
So, they say 20 means waitin’. Like, when them Israelites were wanderin’ in the desert? Took ’em a long time, didn’t it? Forty years! Well, 20 is kinda like half of that, still a good chunk of time, you see? It’s like waitin’ for a pie to bake, you gotta be patient.
And what’s this about the letter “kaph”? Sounds like somethin’ you cough up, but it ain’t. They say it looks like a hand, you know, like when you reach out to grab somethin’, or maybe cover somethin’ up. Kinda like when you’re playin’ hide-and-seek. Well, this “kaph” thing, they say it’s got somethin’ to do with gettin’ free, bein’ redeemed, I guess. Like when you finally get that pie outta the oven after waitin’.
They also say 20 means bein’ ready. Like, gettin’ ready for a fight, or maybe gettin’ ready for somethin’ big. Like gettin’ all your jars ready for canning season. You gotta have everything just so, or it ain’t gonna work out right. Same with God, I reckon. He wants us to be ready.
- Waitin’ time, that’s what 20 is about.
- Bein’ ready, like for a big storm.
- Gettin’ strong, like old Bessie pullin’ the plow.
Now, they talk about “maturity” too. Sounds fancy, huh? But it just means growin’ up. Like when a kid finally learns to tie his own shoes, or a gal learns to make a good pot of beans. Twenty years, that’s a long time to grow. You learn a lot in twenty years. You learn about life, about hard work, about losin’ things and findin’ things.

And this Miriam, she died while they were waitin’. Sad, ain’t it? But that’s life, I guess. Sometimes you wait, and sometimes you don’t get what you’re waitin’ for. And then them Israelites, they were grumblin’ about water. Always grumblin’, those folks. Just like my old man when the well went dry.
Then there’s somethin’ about a big fight with the Devil. Sounds scary. But God wins in the end, that’s what they say. And then everybody comes back to life, even the ones who didn’t believe. Kinda like a big reunion, only bigger. A whole lot bigger.
So, what’s it all mean, this number 20? Well, like I said, it’s about waitin’, about gettin’ ready, and about growin’ up. It’s about trustin’ God, even when things are tough. Even when the well’s dry and the pie’s burnt. It’s about finishin’ somethin’ old and startin’ somethin’ new. You gotta keep the faith, ya know? Keep plantin’ them seeds, even if the rain don’t come right away. Eventually, somethin’ good’ll grow. That’s what I believe, anyway.
It ain’t always easy, this waitin’ and growin’ stuff. But it’s part of life, just like breathin’ and eatin’. And if the Bible says 20 is important, well, then I reckon it’s important. It’s a reminder, I guess. A reminder to be patient, to be ready, and to keep on trustin’.
And don’t forget the hand, this “kaph” thing. It means help and blessin’s. Like when someone lends you a hand when you’re stuck in the mud. God’s lendin’ us a hand, I reckon. He’s helpin’ us along the way, even when we don’t see it. That’s what the number 20 makes me think of, anyway. A waitin’ time, a growin’ time, and a time when God’s got His hand on you, helpin’ you along.
