Okay, so I’ve been meaning to dive into the Oswald Wirth Tarot deck for a while now. I finally got my hands on one, and let me tell you, it’s been a trip! Here’s how it all went down.
Getting Started
First, I just spent some time with the deck. No books, no websites, just me and the cards. I flipped through them, looked at the images, and got a feel for the overall vibe. I think this is important – to kind of soak in the art and let it speak to you before you start getting all technical.
Diving into the Details
After that initial getting-to-know-you phase, I started digging a little deeper. I noticed that Wirth’s deck is based on the Tarot de Marseille, but it’s got its own unique twists. For example, some of the colors are different, and he’s added some extra symbols here and there. So I grabbed a notebook and started jotting down some of these observations.
- The Star card: I noticed the woman is pouring water from two jugs, similar to other decks, but the arrangement of the stars felt different. I wrote that down.
- The Fool: This guy looks a bit more… intense than in other decks. He’s got this wild look in his eyes. I made a note of that too.
- The colors: Lots of yellows and blues, which felt significant. I marked that as something to explore later.
Doing Some Readings
Once I felt I had a basic handle on the imagery, I decided to try a few simple readings. I just did some basic three-card spreads – past, present, future. Nothing fancy. I wanted to see how the cards felt in action, you know?
Honestly, the readings were a little confusing at first. I kept getting cards that I didn’t fully understand. But I persevered! I went back to my notes, and I also started looking up some interpretations online (but I tried not to get too bogged down in other people’s ideas). I focused on connecting the meanings back to the images on this specific deck.
Ongoing Practice
I’m still very much a beginner with this deck, but I’m learning more every day. I’m trying to do a short reading every morning, just to keep practicing. And I’m still adding to my notebook, recording my thoughts and observations. It’s a slow process, but it’s super rewarding. I am feeling the magic.
