Okay, so I’ve been getting into tarot lately, and I decided to try out the Revelations Tarot deck. I’d heard good things, and the artwork looked really cool online, so I figured, why not?
First, I got the deck. Simple enough, right? I made some space on my table, because, you know, you gotta have room to lay out the cards. I lit a candle – just a plain white one, nothing fancy – to kind of set the mood and make it feel a little more… intentional, I guess.
Cleansing the deck
Then, I cleansed the deck. People do this different ways. Some people use crystals, some use smoke from sage or incense. I just held the deck in my hands for a few minutes, closed my eyes, and imagined a white light washing over it, clearing out any old energy.
Next, I shuffled the cards. A lot. Like, a lot. There’s no real “right” way to do this, I just shuffled until it felt right. Some people do that riffle shuffle thing like in casinos, but I’m terrible at that, so I just did a messy overhand shuffle. The point is to mix them up really well.
The First Reading
Now for the actual reading! I decided to do a simple three-card spread: Past, Present, Future. After shuffling some more, I cut the deck into three piles, then flipped over the top card of each pile.
- Past: The reversed Five of Cups. I found that in the past I felt down and depressed.
- Present:The Star. I interpreted that to mean to keep on the path of hope.
- Future: The Knight of Wands. My resource suggested that I will be entering a period of high energy and confidence!
I have to admit, I was doing more of the thinking and meditating, looking up what the cards, might, means. But after that, I just sat with the cards for a while, looking at the images and thinking about what they might mean for * Revelations deck, the art is pretty intense, so there’s a lot to look at!
After I felt like I’d gotten what I needed from the reading, I thanked the cards (sounds silly, I know, but it felt right), gathered them up, and put them back in their box. I also blew out the candle, because, safety first!
Overall, it was a pretty cool experience. I’m not sure if I “believe” in tarot in a supernatural way, but I do think it’s a good way to tap into your intuition and think about things from a different perspective. I’ll definitely be trying it again!
