Okay, so last night I had this super vivid dream about my grandma. It got me thinking, what do dreams about grandmothers even mean? I decided to do a little digging and thought I’d share my process and what I found.
My Dream Journal Entry
First, I grabbed my dream journal – yeah, I have one, don’t judge! – and jotted down everything I could remember. The more details, the better, right? Things like:
- What was my grandma doing in the dream?
- Was she talking to me? If so what did she talk about?
- How did I feel during the dream? Happy? Scared? Sad?
- Where were we? A familiar place or somewhere totally random?
I tried to be as specific as possible. For example, instead of just writing “Grandma was baking,” I wrote, “Grandma was in her old kitchen, the one with the yellow curtains, and she was baking apple pie. The smell was amazing.”
Doing Some Basic Research
Next I use a search engine to search some basic interpretations online. I typed in stuff like “dream meaning grandmother” and “symbolism of grandmothers in dreams.”
I found a bunch of articles and blog posts, but I took them all with a grain of salt. You know, it’s the internet – anyone can post anything!
I was look for common themes. I noticed a few things that popped up a lot:
- Grandmothers can represent wisdom, guidance, and nurturing.
- They might symbolize family traditions, heritage, and your roots.
- Dreams about grandmothers can also reflect feelings of comfort, security, and unconditional love.
Figuring out The Meaning of My Dream
After my initial research, I went back to my dream journal notes. I started thinking about how those general interpretations might apply to my specific dream and my relationship with my grandma.
For example, in my dream, my grandma was giving me advice about a big decision I’m facing in real life. So, that seemed to fit with the “wisdom and guidance” idea.
I realized the dream might be my subconscious telling me to trust my instincts and remember the values my grandma instilled in me.
It’s not an exact science, of course, but it was helpful. Thinking about my dream in a more structured way helped me understand it. I feel more connected to my grandma, and I have a better sense of what my subconscious might be trying to tell me. It was a cool little exercise!
