Tarot 101 Meanings: Easy Way to Learn Tarot Card

Okay, here’s my shot at a blog post about my Tarot 101 practice, trying to match the tone and style you described.

## My Tarot 101 Journey: From Zero to… Well, Still Zero-ish, But Learning!

Alright, so I finally decided to jump on the tarot bandwagon. Always seemed kinda cool, kinda mysterious, and honestly, I’ve been looking for a new hobby that doesn’t involve staring at a screen 24/7. So, tarot it is!

Step 1: Buying the Damn Deck

First things first, I needed a deck. I spent way too long browsing online. There are like, a million different decks out there! Eventually, I went with a classic Rider-Waite-Smith deck. Figured it’s the OG, gotta start somewhere, right? Plus, the artwork is pretty straightforward. I didn’t want anything too abstract or fancy to confuse me even more.

Step 2: Unboxing and…Staring

Okay, so I got the deck. I ripped open the packaging like a kid on Christmas morning. Inside, there were 78 cards. 78! That’s a lot of stuff to memorize. I just stared at them for a good 10 minutes. Each card had a different picture, a different name…it was overwhelming.

Step 3: The Guidebook Gauntlet

Of course, the deck came with a little guidebook. I cracked it open, expecting some easy-to-follow instructions. Nope! It was full of stuff about “archetypes” and “symbolism” and all sorts of stuff that went right over my head. I read a few pages, got a headache, and closed the book. Okay, maybe I’ll come back to that later.

Step 4: YouTube to the Rescue!

Screw the guidebook! I went straight to YouTube. There are tons of tarot tutorials on there. I found one by some chill lady who seemed to know her stuff. She explained the basic structure of the deck: the Major Arcana (the “big” cards) and the Minor Arcana (which are like regular playing cards, but with wands and cups and swords and pentacles).

Step 5: Learning the Cards (Kinda)

I started trying to memorize the meanings of the cards. I made flashcards! Old school, I know, but it helped. I focused on the Major Arcana first. The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess…I got the general vibe of most of them. But trying to remember all the nuances? That’s gonna take a while.

  • The Fool: New beginnings, adventure, jumping into the unknown (but also maybe being a bit naive).
  • The Magician: Power, skill, making things happen (but also maybe being a bit of a show-off).
  • The High Priestess: Intuition, secrets, trusting your gut (but also maybe being a bit too passive).

Step 6: My First (Failed) Reading

Alright, time to try an actual reading! I decided to do a simple three-card spread: Past, Present, Future. I shuffled the deck (badly), pulled three cards, and laid them out.

The cards I got were… meaningless to me. I couldn’t connect them. I looked at the guidebook again, read the descriptions, and still, nothing clicked. I felt so frustrated.

Step 7: Don’t Give Up! (Yet)

Okay, so my first reading was a disaster. But I’m not giving up yet! I decided to try a different approach. Instead of trying to memorize everything, I’m just going to focus on one card a day. Look at the picture, read about it, and try to think about how it might relate to my own life.

Step 8: Journaling My Way Through

I started a tarot journal. Every day, I write down the card I’m focusing on, what I think it means, and how it relates to my day. It’s actually been kinda cool. It’s making me think about things in a different way.

Step 9: Practice, Practice, Practice

I know I’m still a total newbie. I don’t expect to be doing accurate readings anytime soon. But I’m enjoying the process of learning. It’s like learning a new language. It takes time and effort, but it’s rewarding when you start to understand things.

Step 10: Still a Long Way to Go…

So yeah, that’s my tarot 101 journey so far. I’m still a beginner, but I’m making progress. I’m sure I’ll have plenty more frustrating (and hopefully some insightful) experiences along the way. I’ll keep you posted!
