Tarot Card Reading Cost: What Affects How Much You Pay?

Okay, here’s my take on a blog post about tarot card reading prices, based on my own experience:

Alright folks, let’s talk tarot! I’ve been diving deep into the cards lately, not just shuffling and memorizing meanings, but actually offering readings to people. And one question that keeps popping up is: how much should a tarot card reading cost? It’s a tricky one, so I’m gonna spill the tea on how I figured it out.

First off, I started by doing some serious recon. I hopped online, checking out what other readers were charging. I went deep into Etsy, browsed local metaphysical shops websites (when they had prices listed), and even lurked on some tarot forums. Man, the range was HUGE. I saw everything from $5 quickie readings to $200+ in-depth sessions. My head was spinning!

Next, I had to be real with myself about my skill level. I ain’t gonna lie, I’m not a seasoned pro with decades of experience. I’m still learning, still honing my intuition. So, charging top dollar felt totally wrong. I decided to position myself as an “intermediate” reader, someone with solid knowledge but not yet a guru.

Then came the time factor. How long did each reading actually take me? I timed myself doing a few different spreads – a simple three-card spread, a Celtic Cross, and a relationship reading. Factoring in prep time (cleansing the deck, setting intentions) and follow-up (sending a written summary), I realized each reading took longer than I initially thought.

  • Quick 3-card reading: About 30 minutes total.
  • Celtic Cross: Closer to an hour, sometimes more.
  • Relationship reading: Easily 90 minutes, especially with all the layers.

Okay, now we’re getting somewhere. Time = money, right? But how much per hour? This is where things got subjective. I thought about my other skills and side hustles. What’s my time worth in general? I also factored in the “energy exchange” aspect. Tarot reading is draining! You’re tapping into intuition, connecting with someone else’s energy…it’s not like just clocking in at a regular job.

So, after all that, here’s what I landed on (and it’s still a work in progress!):

  • 3-card reading: $15 – $20. Quick and to the point.
  • Celtic Cross: $35 – $45. More in-depth, takes more time and energy.
  • Relationship reading: $50 – $60. A deep dive into complex dynamics.

I also decided to offer some add-ons, like clarifying cards for an extra few bucks. And I’m thinking about package deals, like a monthly subscription for regular readings. But that’s down the road.

The bottom line? Pricing your tarot readings is personal. You gotta consider your skill, your time, your energy, and what the market will bear. Don’t be afraid to experiment and adjust your prices as you gain experience. And most importantly, make sure you’re charging what feels fair to YOU. Happy reading!
