What are Clubs in Tarot? Your Quick Start Guide

Alright folks, let me tell you about my little tarot adventure focusing on the suit of Clubs – or Wands, depending on the deck you’re rocking.

First things first, I cracked open my trusty tarot journal. I always start there. Gotta have a record of what I’m thinking, feeling, and seeing. This time, I wanted to really dig into what the Clubs mean to me, beyond the textbook definitions of action, passion, and creativity.

I grabbed three different decks. Yeah, overkill maybe, but each deck has its own vibe. I had my Rider-Waite-Smith, my Thoth, and a newer indie deck with some really cool artwork. Spread ’em out on the table and just stared at the Clubs cards. Ace, Two, Three…all the way up to the royals.

Then, I started a little free association. What images popped into my head when I saw each card? What emotions did I feel? For the Ace of Clubs, it wasn’t just “new beginnings.” It was more like…a surge of energy, almost overwhelming, a burning desire to do something. For the Five of Clubs, it wasn’t just “competition.” It was the frustration of being blocked, of spinning my wheels.

Next up: a simple one-card draw every morning for a week, focusing on the Clubs suit. The question I asked was, “What energy should I embrace today?” And I wrote down EVERYTHING – the card I drew, my initial reaction, how it played out during the day, and any insights I gained.

One day I pulled the Eight of Clubs. Textbook meaning: speed, quick action, things moving forward. I initially thought, “Great! Gonna be a productive day!” But then, I got slammed with interruptions, last-minute requests, and a whole lot of buzzing around that didn’t actually accomplish much. I realized the card wasn’t just about speed, it was about the potential for speed, which can be scattered and unfocused if you’re not careful. That day I learned to focus on one task at a time, and things got a lot smoother.

Then I started incorporating Clubs into my regular readings. If a lot of Clubs cards showed up, I knew I needed to pay attention to my energy levels and my drive. Was I pushing too hard? Was I avoiding something I needed to tackle? It helped me get a better handle on my motivations and desires.

I even tried a “Clubs spread” I invented myself. It was just three cards:

  • Card 1: What sparks my passion?
  • Card 2: What obstacles are blocking my progress?
  • Card 3: How can I channel my energy more effectively?

It was surprisingly insightful! The second card especially often pinpointed things I was subconsciously avoiding.

The biggest takeaway? The Clubs aren’t just about “doing.” They’re about intentional doing. About understanding your motivations, overcoming your obstacles, and channeling your energy in a way that actually gets you where you want to go. It’s not enough to just want something, you gotta know why you want it and how you’re going to get it.

It’s been real, I hope this helped!
