Okay, so I’ve been messing around with tarot cards for a while now, and I gotta say, it’s pretty wild. But you know what’s just as important as doing the readings? Keeping those cards clean! Not like, with soap and water, but energetically. I found some stuff online about it, and figured I’d give it a try and see what happened.

Getting Started
First off, I did some digging around because, honestly, I had no clue where to start. Turns out, there’s a bunch of ways to cleanse tarot cards. People talk about it like it’s some kind of ritual, which, I guess it kinda is. The whole point is to get rid of any wonky energy that might be hanging around on the cards, especially if you’ve been doing a lot of readings or if someone else has been handling your deck.
The Experiment
So, I decided to try a couple of different methods I found. One was super simple – just holding the deck in my hands and picturing some kind of cleansing light washing over them. I’m not gonna lie, it felt a little silly at first, just standing there, holding my cards and trying to imagine light. I even tried doing this whole breathing thing, where you’re supposed to breathe out this imaginary white light onto the cards. Honestly, I felt like I was going to pass out from all the slow breathing, but, hey, I was committed.
- The Light Visualization: This involved cupping my deck between my palms. Then closing my eyes, and imagining a bright light pouring into the cards. Supposedly, this evaporates any negative energy.
- The Breath Work: Taking slow, deliberate inhales and exhales. Breathing the white light over my deck to cleanse any bad vibes.
Another thing I tried was smudging. I’ve got this sage stick I sometimes use for, you know, general vibe cleansing in my apartment, so I figured, why not use it on my cards? I lit the sage, and waving my deck through the smoke, letting the smoke drift around them. I made sure to open the window. I gotta say, that one at least felt a bit more… active? Like I was actually doing something. Plus, my room smelled pretty nice afterward.
- The Smudging: Using a sage smudge stick. I lit it, let the smoke billow around, and carefully ran my deck through the smoke. Ensuring to have the windows opened.
Did It Work?
Now, the million-dollar question: did it actually make a difference? I did some readings before the cleansing and then some after. The cards did feel different. Maybe it was just in my head, like a placebo effect, but the readings I did after the cleansing felt… clearer? Like there was less static in the messages, you know? And overall, I felt a little more connected to my deck, which was pretty cool.
I even tried pulling the Wheel of Fortune card before and after cleansing. Before the cleansing, I got the feeling that things were uncertain, maybe a bit chaotic. But after? The Wheel of Fortune card felt more like an invitation to embrace change, to go with the flow. It was subtle, but definitely there.

Wrapping Up
So, yeah, I think there’s something to this whole tarot card cleansing thing. It’s not just about keeping your cards physically clean, it’s about keeping the energy clear so you can get the best readings possible. Plus, it’s kind of a nice little ritual to do, makes you feel more connected to your cards and to the whole tarot practice. I’m definitely gonna keep doing this, maybe try out some other methods I’ve read about. Who knows, maybe next time I’ll try using crystals or moonlight. The possibilities are endless, it seems!
