Fours in Tarot: Simple Meanings (Easy Guide for Beginners)

Okay, so today I decided to dive a bit deeper into the “Fours” in Tarot. I’ve always found them intriguing, representing stability and structure, but I wanted to really feel that energy, you know? So I started, as always, with clearing my space.

I lit some incense – sandalwood, because it’s grounding – and put on some chill music. No words, just ambient stuff. Then I shuffled my deck, focusing on the number four and what it means to me: home, family, foundations, that kind of thing.

Pulling the Cards

  • First, I pulled the Four of Wands. Classic! It felt like a good start, all about celebration and community. I spent some time just looking at the image, letting it sink in.

What joyful moments have I experienced?

  • Next up, the Four of Cups. This one’s always a bit tricky for me. It’s about contemplation, sure, but also about maybe missing opportunities? I jotted down some thoughts in my journal about times I’ve felt that way. Times I perhaps closed myself off a bit much.
  • Then came the Four of Swords. Rest and recuperation. This resonated a lot. I’ve been feeling pretty burnt out lately, so seeing this card felt like a permission slip to slow down. I did a quick meditation, just five minutes, focusing on my breath.
  • Finally, the Four of Pentacles. This one’s about security, sometimes possessiveness. I thought about my relationship with material things and where I might be holding on too tight.

    Maybe something I can adjust?

Putting It All Together

After pulling all four cards, I laid them out in a square, because, well, four sides! It felt right. I just sat there for a while, looking at them, seeing how they connected. It was like they were telling a story about finding stability (Wands) by acknowledging my emotions (Cups), taking time to recharge (Swords), and being mindful of my attachments (Pentacles).

It wasn’t some huge, earth-shattering revelation, but it was a good reminder. A reminder that building a solid foundation takes work, but it also requires rest and introspection. And that sometimes, the most stable thing you can do is just be present with yourself. I’ll probably keep these cards out for a few days, just to keep that energy around.
