Getting Tarot Card Tattoos: What to Consider First?

Alright, so I finally went through with it. Tarot card tattoos. I know, I know, sounds a bit out there, but hear me out.

It all started a few months back. I was going through a rough patch, you know, the usual existential dread mixed with career uncertainty. I’ve always been drawn to tarot – not in a “predict the future” kinda way, but more as a tool for self-reflection. I picked up my deck one night, and The Star card just kept popping up. It resonated with me, like a beacon of hope in the middle of all the chaos.

That’s when the idea hit me. A tattoo. Not just any tattoo, but The Star card. I started doing some research. Looked at a bunch of different designs online, some traditional, some modern, some minimalist. I knew I didn’t want anything too flashy. I wanted something that was meaningful to me, but also aesthetically pleasing.

First, I sketched out a bunch of ideas in my notebook. Stick figures and rough shapes, just trying to get the basic composition down. Then, I moved on to more detailed drawings. I played around with different elements of the card, like the stars, the naked woman pouring water, the pool. I wanted to incorporate all of it, but in a subtle way.

Finding a tattoo artist was the next step. I didn’t want to just walk into any random shop. I wanted someone who understood my vision, someone who could execute the design with precision and artistry. After a lot of searching (and Instagram stalking), I found this artist who specialized in fine-line tattoos. Her work was delicate and intricate, exactly what I was looking for.

I sent her my sketches and explained my concept. We chatted back and forth, tweaking the design until it was perfect. She suggested adding some subtle shading to give it more depth, which I thought was a great idea.

The day of the appointment, I was nervous as hell. I mean, it’s a tattoo, it’s permanent! But I also felt a sense of excitement. I knew this was something I really wanted.

I arrived at the shop, and the artist was super chill. She had all my sketches laid out, and we went over the final design one more time. She cleaned and prepped my skin, and then we got started.

The actual tattooing process wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It definitely stung, but it was manageable. I focused on my breathing and tried to relax. The artist was really skilled, and she worked quickly and efficiently.

After about two hours, it was done. I looked in the mirror, and I was blown away. It was exactly what I had envisioned. The Star card, rendered in delicate lines and subtle shading, on my forearm. It was beautiful.

Here’s a breakdown of what I did:

  • Initial Idea: Got the idea from the repeated appearance of The Star card during a difficult time.
  • Research: Looked up tons of designs online.
  • Sketching: Doodled in my notebook until I had a basic design.
  • Artist Search: Found a fine-line tattoo artist through Instagram.
  • Consultation: Discussed my vision with the artist and refined the design.
  • The Tattoo: Two hours of tattooing, and bam!

The healing process was pretty straightforward. I followed the artist’s instructions carefully, keeping the area clean and moisturized. It took about two weeks for it to fully heal.

Now, a few months later, I’m still absolutely in love with my tattoo. It’s a reminder to stay hopeful, even when things get tough. It’s a symbol of my own personal journey, and it makes me feel empowered.

Would I do it again?

Hell yeah! It was a great experience, and I’m already thinking about my next tattoo. Maybe The Sun card? We’ll see.

So, yeah, that’s my tarot card tattoo story. What do you guys think? Any of you have tattoos with special meaning?
