Okay, so today I decided to dive into understanding the King of Earth tarot card, also known as the King of Pentacles in some decks. I’ve been trying to get a better grasp on all the court cards, and this one felt like a good challenge.
First, I grabbed my trusty Rider-Waite deck. I always start with this one because the imagery is so rich and, well, classic. I laid the card out on my table, making sure I had good lighting. It’s hard to see the details otherwise!
I spent a good few minutes just looking at the card. You know, really observing. The King is sitting on this elaborate throne, covered in carvings of bulls and vines. He’s holding a pentacle in one hand and a scepter in the other. He’s surrounded by all this lush greenery and grapes, and there’s a castle in the background. My first thought was, “This guy is STABLE.”
Then, I pulled out a few of my tarot books. I have, like, three different ones that I like to cross-reference. I started reading about the general meanings – things like abundance, security, discipline, and material success. One book talked about him being a father figure, the kind of person who provides for his family and community.
I am trying to connect it with my life.

After some journaling, I felt like I had a pretty good handle on the King of Earth. He’s not just about money, although that’s definitely part of it. He’s about being responsible, grounded, and generous with what you have. He’s the kind of person who builds things that last.
I finished up by doing a quick three-card spread, using the King of Earth as the significator (the card representing the overall situation). It was interesting to see how the other cards interacted with him, giving me a more nuanced understanding of his energy in a specific context. I recommend it strongly.
