Learn Marseille Tarot Card Reading: Easy Guide for Beginners

Okay, here’s my blog post about my experience with Marseille Tarot cards, written in a casual, personal style:

So, I finally did it! I got myself a deck of Marseille Tarot cards. I’ve been kinda curious about tarot for a while, seeing it pop up all over my social media, and the artwork on some of these decks is just gorgeous. I decided to go with the Marseille style because it felt… I dunno, classic? Authentic? Plus, the imagery is pretty straightforward, which I figured would be good for a beginner like me.

Getting Started

First thing I did was just hold the deck. Sounds weird, maybe, but I wanted to, like, get a feel for it. The cards were kinda stiff and new, so I spent some time shuffling them, just getting used to how they moved in my hands. No readings yet, just familiarizing myself.

Then, I went online. Man, there’s a TON of info out there about tarot! It was a little overwhelming, to be honest. I found some basic meanings for each card, and I started to get a sense of the different suits (those swords, cups, wands, and pentacles). There is a common theme for each suit, and I have tried to practice and see if I can guess before I look up.

My First Reading (It Was a Mess)

Okay, so after a few days of just looking at the cards and reading up on them, I decided to try a simple three-card spread. You know, past, present, future. I laid the cards out, and… blank. Total brain freeze. I had all these meanings swimming around in my head, but I couldn’t make sense of them in relation to each other. It also didn’t help that the cards drawn are not related at all.

I ended up grabbing my little notebook and just jotting down the basic meaning of each card, one by one. Then I tried to see if I could weave them into some kind of story. It was clunky, and I definitely felt like I was forcing it, but it was a start.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Since that first kinda awkward reading, I’ve been pulling a card or two each morning. Just to get more familiar with the imagery and the meanings. I’m not trying to predict the future or anything, just trying to see what the cards might be suggesting about my day, or my mood, or whatever’s going on in my life.

I also found a cool exercise online where you compare two cards and try to find the connections between them. It’s like a little brain teaser, and it’s helping me think more creatively about the cards.

And, I think it is good to use a dedicated notebook to jot down my progress.

Still Learning!

So, that’s where I’m at with my Marseille Tarot journey. Still very much a beginner, still learning the ropes, but it’s been a fun and interesting experience so far. I’m not sure if I believe in the “magic” of tarot, but I do think it’s a cool tool for self-reflection and sparking creativity. Maybe it’ll help me tap into my intuition a little more, who knows?

I’ll keep you guys posted on my progress! Maybe I’ll even try a more complicated spread soon…If you have any tips or resources for a tarot newbie, I’d love to hear!
