Portland Tarot Card Reading Guide: Your Questions Answered Here!

Okay, so I’ve been kinda curious about tarot cards lately. I see them all over Portland, it’s like every other shop has a little sign out front offering readings. I finally decided to just do it, bite the bullet, and see what all the fuss was about.

First, I had to find a place. I just walked around my neighborhood, honestly. There are so many options here, it’s kinda crazy. I ended up picking this little shop, it had good vibes, you know? Kind of dimly lit, smelled like incense, very… Portland-y.

My Portland Tarot Card Reading

I went in and talked to the woman at the counter. She was super chill, explained the different types of readings they offered. I went for a basic one, I think it was called a “Celtic Cross” spread? Sounded fancy.

  • The Setup: We went into this small, private room. There was a table with a velvet cloth, and she had me shuffle the deck while thinking about a general question. Nothing too specific, just “What do I need to know right now?” kind of thing.
  • The Reading: She laid out the cards in a specific pattern, and then started explaining what each one meant, and how they related to each other. Honestly, some of it was a little vague, but some of it was surprisingly… resonant. Like, she talked about a need for balance in my life, and letting go of some old baggage, and I was like, “Whoa, okay, that’s kinda hitting close to home.”
  • My Feeling: I won’t lie and tell everything make scense. I had to ask a lot of questions.
  • The Cards: I don’t remember all the specific cards, but there was one about “new beginnings,” and one that was kinda scary-looking, but she said it represented challenges that could lead to growth.

The whole thing took about 30 minutes, maybe? Afterward, I felt… lighter, somehow. Like I had some things to think about, but in a good way. It wasn’t like she gave me all the answers to life, but it was more like she gave me some new perspectives, some things to ponder.

I bought a little crystal on my way out, just because. I’m not sure if I’m a total tarot convert now, but it was definitely an interesting experience. I might even do it again sometime, maybe when I’m feeling a little lost or confused. It’s definitely a very Portland thing to do, and I’m glad I finally tried it.
