Okay, so I decided to dive deep into learning the meanings of the Rider-Waite tarot deck. I’ve always been curious, you know? So, I figured, why not just go for it?
First, I grabbed my own Rider-Waite deck. I’ve had it for a while, but honestly, I mostly just liked the artwork. Time to change that!
Getting Started
I started by just laying out all the cards. All 78 of them! It was a bit overwhelming, seeing them all spread out like that. Major Arcana, Minor Arcana, all the suits… woah.
I decided that I would first learn the general meaning of all the cards.I found them online by various searching.
- The Fool: New beginnings, innocence, taking a leap of faith.
- The Magician: Manifestation, power, resourcefulness.
- …And so on, I won’t list them all here, that’s a lot!
Then I moved onto the Minor Arcana.
- Wands: Passion, energy, creativity.
- Cups: Emotions, relationships, intuition.
- Swords: Intellect, challenges, communication.
- Pentacles: Material world, abundance, practicality.
Putting It All Together
After getting a handle on the basic meanings, I started practicing by pulling a card each morning and journaling about it. What did the card mean in general? How did it relate to my day? It was actually pretty cool to see how the cards seemed to resonate with what was going on in my life, even if it was just a little thing.
Then I tried doing some simple three-card spreads – you know, past, present, future. It was tricky at first, trying to see how the cards connected to each other, but the more I practiced, the easier it got. I even started reading for a couple of friends, just for fun. They were surprisingly into it!
It’s definitely a learning process, and I’m still very much a beginner. But I’m enjoying the journey! It’s like learning a new language, and the more I practice, the more fluent I *’s a whole new way of looking at things!
