My Third Go at Tarot – Session 3 Log

Okay, so this was my third time really sitting down to try and get a feel for these tarot cards. Still feels a bit weird, but hey, gotta practice, right? Didn’t do anything fancy. Just grabbed my deck off the shelf where it usually sits collecting a bit of dust.

I sat down at the kitchen table. No candles, no special cloths, none of that stuff. Just me, the cards, and my morning coffee going cold. Gave the deck a few shuffles. They’re still stiff, kinda hard to handle. Almost dropped them twice. Tried that overhand shuffle thing, then just sorta mixed them around on the table like a kid playing cards.

Didn’t have a specific question, really. Was just aiming to pull three cards and see what came up. Like the simple ‘past-present-future’ thing people talk about, I guess. Or maybe just ‘situation-action-outcome’. Who knows? Just wanted to see the pictures and try to make sense of them myself.

So, I cut the deck into three piles, felt kinda official doing that for a second. Then pulled one card from the top of each pile. Laid them out in a row. What did I get?

  • First card: The Hanged Man. Upside down dude. Always looks uncomfortable to me.
  • Second card: Ten of Swords. Ouch. Guy full of swords. Doesn’t look good.
  • Third card: Ace of Cups. Okay, this one looked a bit nicer. A cup overflowing.

My reaction? First thought was, “Well, that’s a mixed bag.” The Hanged Man felt like… feeling stuck, maybe? Seeing things differently but not being able to move? Then the Ten of Swords right in the middle – yikes. Looked like hitting rock bottom, total defeat. Kinda brought the mood down. But then the Ace of Cups at the end. Felt like a little glimmer of hope? New feelings, maybe starting something emotional?

I spent maybe ten minutes just looking at them. Tried not to rush to the little booklet that came with the deck. Wanted to see what I thought first. Jotted down a few words for each card in my notebook:

  • Hanged Man: Stuck, waiting, different view.
  • Ten of Swords: The end, rough finish, no more fighting it.
  • Ace of Cups: New start, feelings, possibility.

Didn’t really connect it to anything specific in my life right then. It felt more like just observing the symbols. The jump from that Ten of Swords to the Ace of Cups was the most interesting part. Like maybe you gotta hit the end of something really hard before a new emotional thing can start. Made some sense, I guess.

Packed the cards up after that. Put them back on the shelf. Still not sure I “get” tarot, but this session felt a bit more focused than the last two. Just pulling cards, looking, thinking. That’s the process for now. We’ll see how the next one goes.
