Okay, so I’ve been wanting to really get into tarot for a while now, and I finally decided to dive deep into the Thoth deck. It’s got this reputation for being, like, super complex and mysterious, but I’m all about that challenge. So here’s how my learning journey has been going so far.
First, I got myself a Thoth deck. Obviously, right? I spent a good hour just looking at the cards, front and back. The artwork is intense! It’s so different from the Rider-Waite deck I’d messed around with before. All these symbols and colors, it’s a lot to take in.
Getting to Know the Cards
I knew I couldn’t just jump into readings. I needed to actually, you know, understand the cards. So, I started by separating the Major Arcana – those big, important cards like The Fool and The Lovers.
- I picked one card each day.
- I sat down with it, really looked at it, and jotted down my first impressions in a notebook. What did the colors make me feel? What did the symbols seem to be saying?
- Then, I hit the books (and the internet!). I read about the card’s traditional meanings, the symbolism, and how it related to, like, astrology and stuff. It was a lot of information!
After the Major Arcana, I moved onto the Minor Arcana. These are the numbered cards, divided into four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Disks. This part felt a little less overwhelming, because there was a system to it.
- I learned that Wands are about energy and action.
- Cups are all about emotions and relationships.
- Swords deal with thoughts and conflict.
- And Disks are connected to the material world, like money and work.
I followed the same process as before – picking a card a day, writing down my thoughts, and then researching. It was slow going, but I started to see patterns and connections. I even started doing some simple, one-card readings for myself, just to get a feel for how the cards spoke to me.
Putting it All Together
It’s definitely a work in progress! But I feel like I’m finally getting a handle on the Thoth deck. It’s still intimidating sometimes, but I’m learning to trust my intuition and see how the cards relate to my own life. I plan to start doing some practice readings for friends soon, just to get more experience. It’s all about practice, practice, practice! I found that the more I handle them, the more I understand them.
